Introduction
What is sleep? Sleep
can be described as a natural and periodic state of rest during which
consciousness of the world is suspended. “Sleep is the golden chain that ties
health and our bodies together”. This
famous quote from Thomas Dekker really interpret why every people need enough
sleep. A good quality of sleep ensures body, mind and also mood to refresh. Sleep also essential for resting cardiovascular
system. Researchers have found that people with normal or high blood pressure
experience a 20 to 30 per cent reduction in blood pressure and 10 to 20 per
cent reduction in heart rate. Therefore people cannot deny the role of sleep in
their lives. What will happen if people lack of sleep? Are there any serious impacts
that might influence life in future?

A) One of the prime effects of sleepless is
it can affect our physical state
1) Poor skin texture, puffy eye bags, fine
lines and dark circles. In long term can cause skin to age faster compare to
well-rested individuals.

to Dr. Howard Murad (2008), lack of sleep contributes to the continuous release
of cellular water that exposed skin to look older than they should be.
2) Gaining body weight due to over
consumption of food than usual and potentially
lead to obesity

Conducted by few researchers at the University of Chicago (2010),
both male and female respondents consumed fairly large calories from snacks and
carbohydrates after five and a half hours of sleep compared to eight and half
hours mainly caused by the increasing of ghrelin, a hormone that excites
appetite, and decreasing of leptin, which indicates repletion.
B) Lack of sleep can also affect people’s mental
state
1) Less efficient in thinking and learning
affect one’s attention, alertness, concentration, problem solving and decrease
their ability to memorize things.

By referring
to Siebern, (n.d), when people are in drowsiness state, they often unable to remember
and kept lose things frequently.
ii) Based on Siebern, (n.d), moreover, they are
lack of ability to concentrate due to drowsiness will lessen the memory.
2) A person will feel more depress because
feel more stressed and mentally exhausted

Researchers
from University of Pennsylvania (1997) note that, the symptoms such as
stressed, angry, sad and mentally exhausted happens when a person has less than
five hours of sleep a night for seven consecutive nights.
C) Other consequence of lack of quality
sleep is health.
1) Without proper sleep, people will have
high tendency to get heart disease because body produces more stressed hormones
than the usual.

Lauderdale,
(2008) has found that the risk of coronary artery calcification, which happen
because calcium deposition in the coronary arteries that narrowing blood
vessel, will be lower by 33 per cent, only with one extra hour of sleep per
night.
2) Cancer because of the over exposing to
lights can prevent the release of melatonin to cancer fight.
i)
Researchers
from Stanford University, (n.d) suggest that a cancer can be avoid if a person
get a good sleep since citing melatonin is released during sleep.
ii)
The researcher also added that cortical
production (involved in regulating immune system activity and act as vital
players in recovery also increased during sleep.
Conclusion
As conclusion,
lack of sleep in daily life might lead to other serious consequences such as
negative effect on health. People might get exposed to heart disease and more
badly, cancer if they do not have enough sleep.
Moreover, lack of sleep also associates with mental problems such as
less efficient in brainwork and also increases risk towards depression.
Furthermore, without a good of quality sleep, people tend to have poor skin
texture and increase in body weight. It is essential to have a proper sleep to
ensure we can give the best of our performances for the next day. Based on
quotes by Karl Kraus “He who sleeps half a day has won half a life” indicates
that person have a happy undisturbed sleep will always succeeds in everything
they do.
